Do you have a specific requirement or is this just 'research'? You say
'L2' but you seem to refer only to transporting Ethernet. It would
help if you could provide more details about your scenario. L2TPv3
doesn't necessarily require additional hardware, depending on your
existing deployment.

Anyway, with AToM, VPLS and L2TPv3, I think you have L2 transport
covered. You could hack something together with bridging across a GRE
tunnel too. Try it! It's not pretty.
