Translation pattern and transformation pattern

Hi, experts,

What's the difference between translantion pattern and transformation
pattern? It seams that translation pattern has only called party and
transformation pattern has both calling party and called party. Is that
correct? Why are there these two methods which seam to have a very similar
function? And What's more, if I use both of them, what's the order that the
CCM complements? What is in first?
