ntp architecture

Hi,

Please suggest me any doc which helps for best design for NTP architecture
for enterprise. We have configured our Core switch as NTP server but when
switch goes down our AD and other servers are impacted. Please help me
undetsand is it right to configure NTP server as router or linux box or
windows machine. Request any helpful doc for same.
