It really depends on how large the network is or should be.
The most networks I run into are using some sort of the following types:
WAN: 7200 or 3800/2800
(possibly a WAE unit for WAAS)
Core: 6500 or 3750-12G
Distribution (if needed, could be collapsed on the core): 6500 or
3750-12G
Access: 3750-48 stacks
