As others have said, you would definitely want to add the L2 VLAN or your
SVI won't come up. You also need to make sure you assign the VLAN to a port
or allow it on a trunk. As far as VTP I wouldn't mix and match unless asked
to, and then I would be very careful. In that case, you need to be very
sure you actually have end to end L2 connectivity. For instance, if you
have Server---Trans---Client make sure you have actually defined the VLAN on
the transparent switch, and that it is allowed on the trunk to the client.
Otherwise you could end up in a situation where the client actually has the
VLAN in it's database (learned from the server) but you won't be able to
ping end to end : )
