OT:CCIE number assignments

Does anyone know how Cisco assign's CCIE numbers? Reason I ask is I
noticed something that appears strange. I always thought they went
right now the list. You pass and you get the next number that is free.
Now the strange part...I noticed the two guys that passed and posted
today (btw congrads to both). They both just past within 24 hours of
each other but their #'s are 177 apart. I can see almost 200 people
passing the CCIE labs in a single day. Seems like we have been in the
25xxx's for a while. I do not know if anyone has talked about this
before but it made me start to wonder. My date with the lab is
approaching quickly and if all my brain cells line up right that day I
hopefully will pass it, so I was wondering what possible number they may
be at when I take the test. If they are assigning by regions, testing
location or something else then who knows what range you may actually
get.
