To me, it is helpful to see where my switch has learned it's VTP info from
... even multiple L2 hops away, the remote switch will show that the
configuration was last modified by the IP of x.x.x.x .
This IP address is the VTP server's IP address, the IP used in the local
identifier. As you did below, you can set this to be a different interface
if you want, for management reasons it might be easier to see a loopback or
another IP present in remote switches vtp output.
Also (thinking out loud here) ... if your switch has learned about VLANs
from a different IP or a different switch, then this could indicate a config
problem or, perhaps you introduced a switch that had a higher config
revision number.
