Tobi,

Check out http://www.voip-info.org/ You might have to use the search function there... By default, the phone comes installed with SKINNY, you'll need to convert it (by hand most likely) to SIP. The process can be easy sometimes or laborious other times...

The configuring IP (aka "it's spinning") is most likely due to your tftp server not having all the proper files (xml default etc...), option 150 not being set. I'm sure you'll find plenty of useful information about how to convert your 7960 to be used with Asterisk and I think the 3rd party sip load is somewhere in the high 8.x revisions.

Hi Tobi,

If you dont have a seperate power adaptor for the phone you can use a
switchport that supplies PoE as you did.
If the phone boots this is ok because the power is ok ...
You can also do a "show power inline" on the switch to check the power settings.
If your bootsequence hangs but the power is still available the
problem is not with the power but with your software.
As you lined out you need to know to what phone server you want to
connect and what protocols you will use ... if you use SIP you will
need a SIP image ... those are not working out of the box ... so you
need to do some digging.
