Passive interface kills the neighbor relationship, so no routes are sent or received.

Rack1R1(config-router)#do s ip ro ei
     155.1.0.0/24 is subnetted, 4 subnets
D 155.1.79.0 [90/28416] via 155.1.146.7, 00:00:09, FastEthernet0/0
D 155.1.67.0 [90/28416] via 155.1.146.7, 00:00:09, FastEthernet0/0
Rack1R1(config-router)#pas
Rack1R1(config-router)#passive-interface f0/0
Rack1R1(config-router)#

Dear Mark,

You can filter EIGRP in the ways you provided

- distribute-list
- redistribution with a route-map that looks at al prefix-list and/or
an access-list or you can even tag the route
- do a summery route

But you can also go for the passive-interface command.
This way you only can only receive routes from your EIGRP neighbour
but not send anytin at all ... which is a kind of filtering in the end
;-)
