Re: Are CCIE written "cumulative" for recert?

Unlike the other certs, it's all tied back to your lab pass date.
Here's my situation:

Passed lab Feb 05, 2008, certified thru Feb 5, 2010

So Feb 5, 2008 began my first 24-month recertification eligibility
window. I have since sat and passed the written once. This pushed my
expiration date to Feb 5, 2012. I am planning to sit the new beta
(for a variety of reasons, probably the main one being curiosity
regarding the new format, content, etc but also looking forward to
having a reason to brush up my knowledge base). However, since I have
already recertified once during the 2008 - 2010 window, passing this
beta will do me absolutely no good in terms of the certification's
validity. My next recertification eligibility window opens as of Feb
6 (or it might be the 5th - not too sure about that) 2010. Let's say
I pass the written on that very day. My certification then extends
thru Feb 5, 2014 but passing the written will not again recertify me
until on or after Feb 6, 2012 (at which point I could recertify
through 2016). Note that it doesn't matter where in the
recertification window you sit the written - the dates remain forever
anchored to your lab pass date. You can do it the first day of that
24-month window or the last and it won't change a thing one way or
another...

Regards,

Scott
