Thanks Guys, can you please explain why it is so? The blog also doesn't give a
reason for this behavior.

Yes that is right, what is interesting is that auto-summary will not increase
it...

Subject: RIP Summarization of redistributed routes - Whats the metric?

Hi experts,

When I summarize routes coming from another domain, the metric shown in the
receiving router is one higher than the value given along with the
redistribute command. Is it the normal behavior? If no summarization is done
on the interface, all the specifics are shown with the metric mentioned in
redistribute command.

Just for clarity, I will try to portray the topology below.

R1--------------------R2----------------------R3

        RIP OSPF

R2 is redistributing OSPF routes with a metric, say 5. Without summarization
on the R1-R2 link, R1 is receiving all the specifics with metric 5. When
summarization is done on the above said link, R1 is seeing only the summary
address with a metric of 6. Is this normal?

Experts, please enlighten me.

Regards,

Binoy
