Hi,

The simplest way is probably to upgrade to 6.3 and then over to 8.12 using the 3rd party SIP releases from Cisco. You'll just need the proper XMLDefault.cnf.xml and the firmware files for the upgrade to succeed.

There are a ton of forums hits on voip-info.org and trixbox.org. The first hit I got for upgrading a 7960 to SIP was this:
