I suppose I should clarify a little as well -- in rapid stp we have
different mechanism for convergence. We have "rapid transition to the
forwarding state". Edge ports can go right into forwarding state, similar
to portfast. In topologies where you have redundant connections to the
root, rapid will converge almost immediately because it has an alternate
port. As soon as the main root port goes down, it will transition. It
doesn't have to wait the 2x forward delay.
