Yeah, this is definitely one of those commands that you should insert
in the configuration whenever you are in doubt. It should not penalize
you if in fact it was not required.

Also, thinking ahead to troubleshooting Cisco gear, you can definitely
envision this as one that would be missing from a pre-configured
switch. :-)
