Hey dennis,

It is just a binary coversion. Starting from the left: the 1 in decimal translates to 00000001 in binary. The next octet would also be 00000001. So you have
00000001 00000001 as a 16 bit number. Now conver that to decimal and you have 257

Can someone explain how the mask conversion for say area 0.0.1.1 = 257? I
must be not seeing it.
