OK.....getting back to the original question from Mr.Mousawi "preserving the
customer vlans on the L2VPN in a SP environment.
If its a Metro Ethernet provider then this Provider will configure 802.1q
tunneling on the switch connected to the customer's interface, however few
things on the provider switch needs to be configured which includes increasing
the mtu size 1504 or higher for super stacking of additional Vlan tags from
the customer. On the PE side pseudowires between the targeted LDP neighbers in
the povider network do the job. If point to point circuit then xconnect
commands under the SVI interface pointing to the remote LDP neighbor in
Provider network, 2nd type is point to mutipoint customer in this case then
CE facing Provider switch will use trunk to pass customer Vlans and multiple
trageted ldp commands will go under the VFI, finally this VFI will go under
the SVI interface on the PE router. Third one is VPLS that is used for the
multipoint to multipoint circuits for the customer.
Point to Multipoint Layer 2 VPN on PE router Configurations:
=============================================
l2 vfi ABC manual
vpn id 3147
neighbor 172.16.X.Y encapsulation mpls
neighbor 172.16.X.Z encapsulation mpls
interface Vlan3147
mtu 9216
no ip address
no ip igmp snooping
no ipv6 mld snooping
xconnect vfi ABC
Note : Under the SVI interface always make sure to have the same mtu size on
both PE routers creating L2transport VC.
So the answer to the question is that Dot1.q tunneling will preserve the
customer vlans.

Ahmad Bilal
