Here's a technique that is easy enough to get master:
1. Take a sheet of paper and draw 4 boxes (one per switch).
2. Connect the boxes with the ports used for cross-connects (trunks,
etherchannel, access to access, etc.)
3. Use colored pens if you like - there will be pens in the labs of various
colors and availability too.
4. Now mark which ports in each box are either being used as access ports,
L3 interfaces, or otherwise referred to in the lab.
5. Note which Vlans are associated with each port.
6. Connect the switches via trunks and use the colors to make sure you know
which Vlans are traversing each Switch.
This concept was discussed in the Cisco 360 TechTorial briefly and is worth
repeating and getting used too no matter how easy the lab.
In fact, one might say it is an exercise worth doing for each lab in
anyone's workbooks until the concept the methodology is fully mastered.
It should probably take less than 10 to complete once fully mastered and you
know you are going to need it for anyone's labs.
Might as well start now.
