Very well said Keegan.
The bar has been raised and we needed it. 1/24,000 is not good enough for uber achievers.

I think it's a little of both. Let's face it with the numbers reaching
30,000 soon I think the CCIE is already a little devalued. I think CCIE's
have become the very good engineers instead of the "perfect" engineer in
the eyes of many. There are so many jobs that require the cert but
obviously don't require an expert or someone who "knows all". I think
cisco is doing us all a favor by raising the bar a little. The CCIE will
still be as prestigious as it is now. The architect may be as prestigious
as the CCIE was in the beginning. Or it could be a flop that no one
decides to put effort (and money..) into and employers largely ignore.
That part depends on the marketing, both on how cisco markets the cert and
how CCIE's market themselves to employers. I'm interested to see how it
pans out. Besides those old dog's need to learn some new tricks anyway.

It's different. It's not a replacement. And like most things in life,
it is all in how you market yourself and alter other people's
perceptions if you believe they perceive a devaluation of a CCIE somehow!
