Simple supply and demand equation, and cisco is the ultimate puppet master
in this regard. I look at it like this: In a cisco partner, the higher payed
CCIE's are the presales guys. The postsales CCIE's make significantly less
because they are not tied into sales. CCDE/CCA is a probable replacement for
the CCIE req in regards to presales engineers working for cisco partners.
Therefor, those higher paying jobs would probably be filled by CCDEs instead
of CCIEs. From my view into the cisco partners today, the CCIE's are doing
much less of the grunt work and more of the design end. That'll probably
change.
Ultimately it depends how cisco pushes the CCDE/CCA down it's channels, and
how the CCIE reqs for partners play out. My hunch is that the IE salaries
will be going down in the coming years, but really it's nothing to be afraid
of. Just choose to adapt, differentiate, and move forward!
