I would not recommend any of the ASA books for V3. One was written based on
7.0.x code. Even tough the second one was written based on 7.2.x, it includes
a lot of 'noise' not covered on the lab exam. Also by including PIX/ASA/FWSM
in the same book it gets very cluttered. Use the configuration guide and CCO
examples to cover the firewall part.
Yusuf's book would be top priority....you should know why..:)
Also I would recommend the books by Deal (both). They are excellent. Just
keep in mind that they were also written based on old IOS versions. So you
have to complement them with the latest official configuration guides etc.
IPSec VPN Design - Bijay Bollapragada....hrm the book is good....but more
towards design. The deal book is way better. The DMVPN section in Vijay's book
is pretty neat tough.
If you still want the Vijay/ASA books, go fro the SAFARI option. Hard copies
really are not worth it (with respect to ccie lab studies).
Also have a look at the network security troubleshooting book by Mynul Huda.

Definitely read the Cisco ASA, FWSM handbook by Hucaby.
It's a must read to get the finer details of a lot of the filtering,
inspection, and such.
It does not cover sslvpn, ipsec vpn, etc.
For that we have your book listed below.

Hi all,
Since my hands are shaking to start a new track :-) I would like to
start my preparation for CCIE Security.
I searched around also in GS archives and found some possible books
that I want to read to prepare for both Written and Lab.
Here is my list so far:
- Network Security Technologies and Solutions (CCIE Professional
Development Series) - Yusuf Bhaji
- Cisco ASA: All-in-One Firewall, IPS, and VPN Adaptive Security
Appliance - Omar Santos
- IPSec VPN Design - Bijay Bollapragada
- CCBOOTCAMP CCIE Security Written Guide
The above list I want to get in printed form. Could you please add
recommendations for reading, which ones are absolute necessary to read
cover to cover and other ones who are adviced which I can read on
Safari Books Online which I also have a Library subscription on.
Thanks very much in advance!
