Point triage. If you run into something taking too long, put in a
band-aid and move on. I agree that a L2/L3 thing may be necessary to
get other points to work, but if you have "it" working (like a link
being UP) even though it's not correct, your later points should still come.

Lose the points in the early phase. Better to lose 4 points, but have
things WORK somehow, and that way you get your 12 points later.

It's always a game, and that's why it's good to have a list of the point
section titles/values so that you can check off and make notes on things
so you know at any point in time how many points you have.

You can blow off as many points as you want, but once you hit 20, the
game is over. Even if you hit 10, you just reduced your margin of error
to 10. Feasible, but still a game!
