We never got a quote for the 7k's but our sales guy made it sound like
the cost was way more... We aren't really looking for a lot of 10g
capacity on the 6500's - only enough to term two 5020's in the current
proposed design which we could do on the sups if we went with a dual
chassis VSS deployment...
On a side note - I just wanted to shout out a big "thanks" to everybody
who has responded - especially the unicasts. It has been a tremendous
help and needless to say I am going to have a crap ton of questions for
the sales engineer on Monday morning. J
Thanks again,
Ron

Just wondering why 6500's ? We have similar project. We are using 7k's
at the core. Also have rows with 5k's top of rack for 10 gig to the
servers and fcoe. Fcoe is not ready yet on the 7k's but it will get
there. Also the per port cost of a 10 gig port on a 7k is less then on a
6500.

Yes, the technology is relatively new, but if the product does half of
what
they claim, you will have one hell of a datacenter infrastructure.

We're about to build a datacenter from the ground up to replace one of
our main datacenters and Cisco is recommending the Nexus 5000 series
with 2148's at the top of the cabinets for layer 2 with Cat 6500 series
VSS for layer 3. We have reservations about using this solution since
the 2148's and the VSS solution are fairly new. Does anybody have any
experience with these products and technologies?
Thanks in advance for your help.
The bad part of this move is I'm trying to hit 40 hours a week in study
time up to my Oct. 2nd lab date when work is requiring close to 80 some
weeks... The good part is I get to put my hands on some new hardware. J
