Hi,

Yes, we have used Cisco Catalyst 3750G-12S in core environments for small
campus LANs. As long as you use it for small environments I don't think the
backplane issues will come into play. In your case with 500-600 users, and
considering it's a collapsed core setup, I think you could be pushing it...
but you could also be just fine. Depends a bit on what you are expecting in
terms of throughput. Is it just (local) user traffic or is there also a lot
of server traffic? Are you using 3750 StackWise switches for your access
layer (9x48 = 432 users per stack)?
