Like any test, there is a mixture of all the things you listed below. I
certainly remember many times in college praying that the teaching
didn't ask any questions about (insert subject here) due to my lower
ability to answer them. Sometimes I was ok, other times I was not! :)
Over the years (as it's been 10 years for me now), the things you list
below have been unchanged in the list of reasons! Amazingly, you'll
find two "standard" answers about how difficult the test was (yes, there
are exceptions, but these are most repeated)...
1. It was a hard test. There were things to trip you up in there. I
can't believe how much they make you do in 8 hours. (typically the
result = Fail)
2. It was a fair test. Some hard, some easy things. Nothing
surprising. Plenty of time. (typically the result = Pass)
The part that makes that amusing is that the TEST hasn't changed. The
level of the test is the same between #1 and #2. Now, like I said,
you'll find plenty of other opinions/answers, but those are the most
common ones that I've heard over the years. For me, when I failed my
first attempt, I walked out feeling that I could blame nobody but
myself. I had time management problems. But I knew whose fault it was. :)
But the thing is, how "easy" or how "hard" a lab is will be determined a
lot based on how well it aligns with things you know well. So any of
your questions may be answered with 'it depends'. But the bottom line
of determining each of those "depends on what?" answers comes back to an
individual's level of preparation and understanding.
In the long-run, if you truly understand the different technologies, it
doesn't matter how difficult or complicated they make the exam, you will
pass it.
Best of luck to you!
