Yes, it is. Some people like connecting to individual devices. I was completely used to using the console server and did my lab using that. It also makes it really easy to do the following:
Alias exec sibe show ip int b | e una
Map F6 to <crtl> <shift> 6 x
And hit F6 1, F6 2, F6 3..... and map out each device r1 to 1 sw1 to 7 the whole way through and spam sibe to each console.
This lets you hit all your routers in a row and then another copy for all your switches. After that you have about 5 to 10 seconds of cleanup to remove the extra fluff between console sessions.
