It's worth what you make of it. The plaque is primarily intended for you.
Just like "paper" certificate. If you have worked very hard for the
certification, spent countless sleepless nights in front of the command
line, labbed every possible scenario and then some on top of that, you'll
see the value in it.
It's just like a painting of art. I do not care for some Starry Night by
Vincent van Gogh, and would value the original at about $50. But for some,
it's worth millions.
Same with the paper certificates. I value my CCNP paper certificate very
much, because I did spend a lot of time studying for it and labbing many
scenarios to better understand the technology.
I value my CCIE plaque that much more. The 21-hour days spent in an endless
effort to thoroughly understand every intricate detail of every technology
involved, their coplexities, implications, and impact. All the vacations and
evenings and weekends. All that I remember when I look at my plaque. It's
worth tens of thousands to me.
Just like van Goghs copy can be bought for about $60, but the original is
worth insanely more, my plaque is an original to me, and copy to others.
Pictures from your favorite vacation/experience ever have this just as vell
- huge sentimental value to you, zero monetary value to most others.
I can go to local glass smith and have them make a huge artistic piece for
something like $100 that would look really expensive to others - but it's
not about that.
My only note would be plaque inconsistencies, because if you put current
plaque by the plaque from the year 2000, it does look "less artistic" to the
unknowing eye.
