Soapbox.....

We have a new dynamips thread with the same questions about every other day
on this thread. It appears that "search the archive" is a troublesome
concept.

I strongly agree that if you are looking to go from seed to tree in 3-4
months (and money is no issue) you need to just rent/buy a rack for 90 days
and pound away. But I don't think that is the right solution. Last time I
checked, this certification was supposed to be about knowledge, not
cramming and it sounds like you are looking for a cram opportunity.

Moving on

I use dynamips every day. I've been using it with IPExpert labs /
InternetworkExpert labs / home labs for months. Yes, there is some time up
front to tweak it. But once it's set, you are good. It is very rare that I
actually have an issue with a lab on dynamips. I have had just as many
issues with typos in vendor labs. Yes, I said it. They're darn good but not
perfect. I'm overly thorough and maybe that is why I catch them. It's not a
good trait. Folks who tell you that you can't depend on dynamips need to
invest a little more time in their dynamips setup or stay clear of the
subject. I've seen plenty of folks on this thread who run it and who claim
to have passed the lab with 80 or 100% dynamips.

If money is no issue, buy or rent a rack for 100% certainty you a matched
up to the cisco blueprint. absolutely. If time is a major factor like it
is, buy or rent a rack. If you want a solution to build and evaluate
features to better your understanding of the technology, dynamips is a
great offering and I'm thankful to everyone who supports it.

PS: Typos and hiccups are great. I've learned more about troubleshooting
technologies by debugging a flipped octet or a hung neighbor than anything
else. Yes, it's frustrating if you are trying to do a timed lab, but I've
noticed that my actual timed labs have improved since I spend so much time
debugging and verifying in my non-timed labs. It helps you understand what
you need to look at.

I agree with Tony,If you r starting now u should have rent a racks or buy
ur
own rack. But if ur pocket is not giving u permission to buy or rent for
three for months then .Use dynmapis spent ur one and two months on dynampis
and try to understand the tecnology. And when u come on 4 hours and 8 hours
lab then rent a racks.
