That depends. If you mean dual booting, that won't affect dynamips one way
or the other since you can only have one OS active at a time. If you mean a
virtual machine, that would affect how many routers you can have loaded
since vmware will take up resources too.

Personally, I think you may want to beef up your memory a little bit. If you
do that, you may want to consider 64 bit version of linux to run so you can
use more than 3 gigs or so.

As far as cpu goes, I think a core2 duo should be fine for a full lab.

Definitely play with different idlepc values. I don't think six routers on
your setup should be taking up 80% cpu.
11 routers on my quad cpu takes about 30% at idle so yours should probably
be about the same, not 80.
