Now that I read your question again... I would configure it as
specified by the 3rd party. For example, the HP Virtual Connect
"cookbook" suggests configuring active mode on a Cisco switch. I'm
not sure that it matters though as long as one end is actively
negotiating the channel. If the 3rd party is a "passive" device, then
you would obviously need to configure active on the switch end.
