GS,
I have full IGP and EGP reachability.
I'm being asked to configure PIM on R2,R3, and R5.
ALL 3 Routers
ip multicast-routing
interface x/x/x
ip pim sparse-dense-mode
exi
ISSUE: R2 and R3. I'm still getting my brain wrapped around Multicast but
I'm seeing a discrepancy:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
R2(config)#do sho ip pim nei
PIM Neighbor Table
Mode: B - Bidir Capable, DR - Designated Router, N - Default DR Priority,
S - State Refresh Capable
Neighbor Interface Uptime/Expires Ver DR
Address
Prio/Mode
183.1.123.3 Serial1/0 00:13:15/00:01:18 v2 1 / DR S
R2(config)#
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
R3(config)#do sho ip pim nei
PIM Neighbor Table
Mode: B - Bidir Capable, DR - Designated Router, N - Default DR Priority,
S - State Refresh Capable
Neighbor Interface Uptime/Expires Ver DR
Address
Prio/Mode
183.1.123.2 Serial1/0 00:14:57/00:01:33 v2 1 / S
183.1.0.5 Serial1/1 00:14:37/00:01:24 v2 1 / DR S
R3(config)#
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This looked fine to me initially but as I moved over to the next section I
had issues. After I reversed my steps back to square one of Multicast, I
noticed that the solutions guide (yes, I cheated!) expects me to have two
neighbor entries from R2.
Rack1R3#show ip pim neighbor
PIM Neighbor Table
Neighbor Interface Uptime/Expires Ver DR
Address Prio/Mode
183.1.123.2 Serial1/0 00:01:55/00:01:18 v2 1 / S
183.1.123.2 Serial1/1 00:01:26/00:01:18 v2 1 / DR S
183.1.0.5 Serial1/1 00:01:39/00:01:18 v2 1 / S
Can someone clarify why I'm expecting two neighbor entries and what the
difference in the entries is? I know the answer is right in front of me but
I can't figure out why I'm not building the second neighbor and what its
significance is...
Thanks in advance....
Charles
