What's closer? While I've never been to the lab in GRU, I've been to
their office there and it's very nice. I like RTP as well and am much
more familiar with that area and the proctors, so that would be MY
choice, but I also live here in the US, so that's also the closest one
for me to go to!

Your experience in either place should be the same, so other than YOUR
details I wouldn't have an opinion to pick one over the other.
