I agree with everything all of you have said. For old hats like me (been
doing network engineering for 14yrs now), alot of has change (and continues
to do so), but alot of the baseline concepts are the same. 10+ years ago,
finding core routing and switching guys who really knew there stuff would
have taken you awhile. For people like me who were in college and gratuated,
they didn't teach this stuff in school (back then a Computer Engineering
undergrad degree was a glorified Electrical Engineer who knew a bit of
software development and a whole lot of assembly language). Nowadays you got
highschool kids coming up with core routing/switching and security skills.
ALL colleges teach skills that are applicable to TODAYS work force. Its much
more competitive and (for guys like me who just love the technology)
exciting. If you want it,if you have time, if you have a drive, you will
get it. Lots of good teachers out there and good materials to help people
get to their goal. Much, much more than in the old days, where there were no
schools, materials, and you were basically on your own reading the Cisco
CCIE books of Roosevelt Giles and Bruce Caslow (for them old hats out
there).

Congrats to all the new guys getting their numbers. And for the rest of us
who don't have it..keep working hard to get it.

Good luck with your studying..
