You guys are leaving out the fact that 10 years ago there was only one path
and very little training.
I'm with Joe on this one.
These days it's usually assumed that you have a CCIE if you're doing any
kind of consulting work. One week I'll do a voice install, the next I'll do
a security audit, after that I might work on a data center move. In all
cases I've notice that customers assume that I either have a CCIE or that
I've at least attempted the lab. They don't even care what path it is.
10 years ago when I started working as an engineer, there was only one path
and everyone wanted it for the paycheck. Now it's basically a requirement to
keep your job.
Last week I was installing a voice network, this week I'm doing a security
audit, next week.....
