Reading it and understanding it are two different things. If you
understand the principles and concepts thoroughly in Doyle 1 and 2, then
it would seem you should be in very good shape for the core knowledge
portion...granted if you didn't understand those principles and concepts
thoroughly, you probably shouldn't be taking the lab exam! (Which, my
guess, is the reason the core knowledge exists).

prepared you are, the better chances you will have of passing the exam.
For the core knowledge section, you should make sure you have read Doyle
