Keep in mind that rumours like that are not always true. Investigation
into possible information leaks may well examine individuals who are
later found to be innocent and honest; they could completely overlook
problems if the scope was restricted to the only the 'most likely'
person or site. Rumours could be based on misunderstandings, or
accurate but dated information. It is common knowledge that some
candidates cheat, but there are many honest candidates amongst them
(hopefully the vast majority). Proctors also deserve the benefit of the
doubt, particularly since hints of dishonesty, even if they turn out to
be untrue, may pose a risk to their career paths. If an individual has
been caught and sacked, resulting in knowledge of any investigation
being more widely known, then perhaps it has now been completed and the
remaining proctors have done nothing wrong.
