Though this may not be the case in this particular instance, but the
vendors maybe sometime involved in the hacking, virus creation and
distribution, and the security breaches, as only the vendors know
completely their products and their vulnerabilities. The motive may be
access to information or create demand for their products.

As the customers would upgrade and harden their products and buy
security products to protect themselves from these security
vulnerabilities, the vendors and their partners would gain.
