I don't think that you would loose points unless the scenario would
explicitly not allow you to set the speed & duplex.
With that said - if you would go to the proctor and say that you normally
set the speed and duplex settings to avoid issues with auto negotiation and
make note that the scenario does not explicitly allow or deny the use of if,
then you should get an answer.
It's all about how you phrase the question as to what kind of answer you
will get.
