Hi Monica,
I've only seen VSS demo'd. I don't have any first-hand experience with
it, but I am familiar with the 6500 series in general. I vaguely
recall
My understanding from reading the documentation is that the line cards
in the failed chassis are unavailable until proper operation of that
supervisor engine is restored (e.g. after a reload). Interfaces in the
active chassis are available.
I can't find the reference now, but I remember there being a lab you
could get into to see VSS in action -- hit Cisco.com and do some
digging. Like you, I found that the Configuration Tool lets you build
a chassis with multiple VS- supervisor engines. I suspect that's
because Cisco plan to lift the "only one supervisor engine per
chassis" restriction one day.
Aside from the product documentation, there is some VSS related info
in the Data Centre section of Design Zone -- www.cisco.com/go/srnd
cheers,
Dale
