Unless something has changed, VSS only supports a single supervisor
engine per chassis. This was a limitation Cisco were looking at
lifting in subsequent releases.
The latest ("12.2(33)SXH and later") config guide still talks about 2
chassis and 2 supervisor engines being the max. There is also this
statement..
"The virtual switching system does not support supervisor engine
redundancy within a chassis."
..which seems pretty definitive.
Essentially the supervisor engines in each chassis form an
active/standby relationship similar to the way two supervisor engines
in a single chassis do.
