The CCIE journey
B
I will have to admit that I probably am the poster child for procrastination.
B I first passed my CCIE written in 1998. I think I have taken the written 5
or 6 times since (keeping my CCNP and other certs current in the process). B
I took the lab once with no thought of passing just to see what it was like.
B
I still desire to get my CCIE but I know it is a long journey and after all
these years I am still not ready. B It is often very difficult to motivate
myself as financially and professionally it means very little to me.
B
I think most of the people I know who have pursued the CCIE do it for the sake
of personal satisfaction/achievement. B I imagine it similar to the desires
of a mountain climber who envisions conquering Mt. Everest his whole life.

B
I study for my CCIE because I want to know that I truly am an expert, and to
be honest while I would like to pass when I take the lab exam, I will be very
happy just to walk out of the lab saying I knew what I was doing.
B
So don't worry about motivation, this will come back naturally if the CCIE is
something you really want.
