Basiclly WCCP web cach control protocol was called like that as in ver 1 it
was relevant for web traffic but the version 2 has many enahcments
additionly like support for tcp udp icmp support for multiple cache engines.
and more. the basic concept behind wccp in the router side is a
sophisticated PBR (policy based routing) allowing to redirect traffic to a
network node for further manipulation. the server side of the WCCP mean the
network node that the traffic was redirected to can be a cache engine for
web like squid or cisco cache engine or can be even Expand's network
Accelerator (there are more options like juniper and others).
The directions in the statements under the interface is the direction of the
traffic in relation to the interface so if you say redirect in it mean that
traffic comming in to the interface will be intercepted and redirect out
mean that traffic on the way out from the interface will be redirected just
like ACL assigments.
