Depending on your IOS version you can also track the rtr (IP SLA) status.

Router(config)#track 1 ?
interface Select an interface to track
  ip IP protocol
rtr Response Time Reporter (RTR) entry

As I labbed the result of IP SLA sending tcp probes to port 179 (bgp)
from the local router to the remote isp router, the result of the
probes are FAIL only once the bgp peering connection is estableshied
between both routers, If it is not already established, the probes are
answered and the status is UP.
so I conclude that tracking the status of an already established bgp
session doesnt work, but what about tracking another "not established"
bgp peering between both routers?
Lets supose apart of the already established bgp peering from both
routers, you want to track only that the remote router is capable of
answering tcp 179 probes? meaning it is capable of bgp routing.

IThe last one I labbed and it works fine with IP SLA.
