This here might help you, it refers to ACS external DB configuration
with VRM as well as some verification steps... Nothing explicitly for
.1x tough, you may need to check the main VRM admin guide for that.

Based on my experience with MS AD external database for .1x
authentication for wireless clients, it works pretty straightforward.
