Hi,

StackWise works, by design, with just one cable connected. But if that
one cable fails, your stack will be partitioned and Bad Things will
happen. For a fault tolerant stack consisting of two switches, use two
cables. Similarly, for stacks of 3 or more switches, make sure the
failure of a single cable doesn't partition the stack.

There is heaps of StackWise documentation on CCO, including various
options for cabling stacks.
