RE: CEF and PBR

Hi Mike

Actually PBR is not a CEF operation. CEF table only has information regarding
IP prefixes and their corresponding Layer2 Encapsulation ( Layer 2 Adjacencies
).

However there is a difference when they say PBR could be CEF Switched. This
mean that operation that are involved in PBR such are ACL matching , building
Layer 2 encapsulation information is done by CEF subsystem on the IOS .

It should be noted any feature implemented on CEF subsystem works faster. Code
base in CEF subsystem is much more leaner and hence execution requries less
CPU cycles.
