hi group,
I stumbled on a weird issue/problem with a 3750 running the latest IOS
release, I want to simulate a IGMP host join with this switch and it works
but only once?
When i configurate the 'ip igmp join-group 224.1.1.1' command on a interface
it sends a join for this group only once, I can see the IGMP querier (a
3640) asking if someone wants any traffic and the 3750 doesnt respond,
resulting in the fact that the traffic is not delivered anymore.
As soon as i remove the 'ip igmp join-group 224.1.1.1' command and add it
back, traffic is flowing fine again.
When i enable 'multicast-routing distributed' and enable pim on the
interface of this switch it actively sends igmp joins and keeps a relation
correctly with the 3640.
When i check the documentation for 'ip igmp join-group' it doesnt say
anything about the fact that multicast-routing/pim needs to be enabled for
this join command to work correctly.
I also noticed the issue in one of the Class on Demands where ip
multicast-routing was just configured on the emulated switch/host.
Anyway, my question is if this is a caveat or is it by design. (I dont see
why you would need to configure pim as its something completely different as
igmp)
Thanks for any explanations.. :)
Wouter
