RE: First attempt; No pass; need suggestions

Hey Bobby,

I wouldn't spend too much time trying to focus on resolving issues based on
your score report. Too often do students try to study after their first
attempt to pass the exam they just had, rather that staying general to
prepare for the (probably different) lab they'll take next.

If you need to hone in on certain topics doing full labs on repeat will
waste too much of your study time. What I'd suggest is reading the Proctor
Guides for ALL our labs on a daily basis until you are familiar with the
broad spectrum of the commands that you are likely to encounter and are
comfortable with determining which functions are being called for based on
question keywords.

Unlike other topics in your lab which are protocol oriented (i.e require
relational understanding, such as routing or switching protocols), Security
and IOS/IP Services are more focussed on successful interpretation on the
question requirements and an ability to identify the correct commands (and
type them in). Familiarity with Proctor Guides is the best way to achieve
this (practice labs aren't really going to help too much except as a way of
helping in memorization of commands).

In addition to that, hone in and spend a few hours each day for about a week
reading the relevant sections from the IOS Configuration Guides, focussing
on commands that you aren't familiar with and trying to get a good feel for
the different functions that you are able to configure on your
routers/switches.

Cheers,

it sounds very similar to my first attempt. I did great on the core
topics and lost it on multicast and sec. I also had some time
management issues on the first lab.

i also used IPexpert and took a few weeks to go back and review the
specific topics i had problems with then a week before i went through
and did 3 mock labs. i feel like i was much better prepared for the
2nd attempt. My score didn't reflect it but that was due to
readjusting my strategy because of the time issue and that screwed me,
not the knowledge of the topics (at least thats what i blaim). so if
i had any advice for you i'd focus on the topics you messed up, go
back and redo the 'section 1' labs on the topics you had problems with
then a few days before the lab do some mock labs. if you feel like
you know the technology better don't adjust your strategy. i dont
think it matters what vendor you use, dont use the answer guide for
explanation, look it up on the doccd.

IMHO
