At last years networkers session they stated that the goal for the first year was 100. Then 200 a year after that. At this rate they will have 12 after the first year - that is if they get the same quality of people taking the exam in feb, which may not be the case.
It is not cheap to take the exam with the exam cost and travel. When I see the quality of the people that took the test this last time and realize that only 3 of 41 passed that makes me want to sit back a bit and see what happens.
The pass rate will have to go up or this cert will die like the last time. From a couple of notes I have exchanged with some people involved with the cert I think they are well aware of this.

I doubt that it will get any easier... I don't think they want to
crank out thousands of them a year like the CCIE (even though the
numbers may suggest so). I'll just work harder and study harder and I
will pass one day. For now though, I'm in no rush to blow $2K when I
know I'm not ready.
