Hey mate,
I think if u buy a dual-core laptop and u remove Bill's crap from it and put
a linux on your laptop, this will do the job for u . But in case of using
windows,in this case my laptop is vaio sz440 and runs vista ,after u running
ospf and bgp every thing start being wired. I added another laptop , Dell
inspiron 1526 running server 2003, to address these issues. Even by
distributing 2 topologies across two boxes, I experience ping packets start
dropping once in a while and increasing timeout will solve the problem, but
your hellos for IGP and BGP, PIM and any thing that form neighbor
relationship may break.
I noticed that laptop runing server 2003 work baout 70-80% but another one
works near 100%. Vista is resource hunger so be carefull about it.
my reommendation is buy a quad core pc and run linux on it.it's more than
enough cpu really doesn't mather so much (of course I don't mean does not
matter at all!!! ) as long as it is quad and OS is linux u would not have
problem.
I'm close to my voice exam lab date, under 1 month. for last few months I
run ccm and unity on my boxes. but I cannot fire up 2 vmware at same mechine
at the same time. (pub on vaio and unity on Dell laptop). if u load your
quad pc with enough ram ,more than 4 Gigs (8 will be great) ,u can run pub
,sub, unity and even dynamips on your linux quad box.
I wrote a detail comment on blindhog.net blog about running dynamips for
voice and why not to use dynamips for voice,u can google it .
