What you need is to contact your local Cisco systems engineer, and ask for a
document that is called "Tahoma 1.2"
That is an NGN solution vision of Cisco, that should answer A LOT of your
questions. But please, design a good core - at least consult with the guys
that worked with technologies you mentioned for years. It is not something
you can learn or understand overnight.
A million things pop into mind. SyncE, for example (the clock on the
ethernet).
